Description | I captured through photography, celebrating Black culture, history, music, and art. This project bridges community engagement and visual storytelling with institutional collaboration, working in partnership with the CCCU Arts and Culture Team and CCCU's Black History 365 initiative. The resulting images were transformed into a four-month exhibition in the Verena Holmes Building at Canterbury Christ Church University, offering an extended platform to amplify the contributions of Black British culture. My documentation of the Black on the Square event aligns with my methodological focus on visual ethnography, using photography as a medium to capture cultural moments and create narratives that challenge underrepresentation. The exhibition translates these images into an accessible, public-facing medium, connecting local audiences to Black cultural contributions. By highlighting Black culture through art, music, and history, this project demonstrates the intersectionality of Black identity, connecting race, culture, and creative expression. Aligning with my research themes of Black British representation and cultural heritage. Working in partnership with CCCU's Arts and Culture Team and Black History 365 reflects my emphasis on collaborative methodologies. These partnerships foster a decolonial approach by creating institutional spaces that celebrate and validate Black histories. Underscoring the importance of extending cultural narratives beyond the event itself, making the work accessible to academic and public audiences. Capturing this inaugural event not only celebrates Black history but also contributes to its archival and historical documentation, connecting my research to broader efforts in preserving and promoting diasporic legacies. |
