Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the contemporary research with respect to the legacies of YOG. Using the case studies of Lillehammer 2016 YOG and Lausanne 2020 YOG, this chapter empirically investigates residents’ perceptions of YOG legacies and their influence on quality of life and event support. It also presents findings with regards to the role of sport involvement and Olympic values in legacy perceptions, quality of life, and event support. From a theoretical standpoint, this chapter sets out to illustrate the effect of individual characteristics (e.g., level of sport involvement and appreciation of Olympic values) on residents’ perceptions and behavioural outcomes.
