I was invited, in March 2020, to a compositional workshop by the Royal Music Association for their 2020 Annual Conference at Goldsmiths 8-10 September.
For this purpose, I am composed a duo for violin (Peter Sheppard-Skaerved) and oboe (Christopher Redgate) that was workshopped using online interaction.
The piece is called "Unrealtime mores" and addresses the challenge of composing for improvisers during lockdown through a process of 'asynchronous rehearsing' whereby cycles of notional transformation and audio processing replace live, face-to-face musical interaction. The output (score and recording) is part of the portfolio of practice work submitted as a double-weighted REF 2021 output.
