Abstract

Chapter reviews the existing evidence and theorising of the crime and climate change nexus. It considers crime and harmful behaviour as causal and contributing factors to climate change, focusing on state and corporate activities, and the role of capitalism as the prevailing political economy model. Climate change denial in particular is examined through the lens of social harm. Chapter further discusses the potential criminogenic consequences of climate change. These arise indirectly through impacts of air pollution, changes to temperature and weather patterns, increased resource scarcity and other strains, and risk of social disorganisation.
