Description | Rainbow is an audio composition comprised of six pieces. The output is the result of practice-research in the area of studio-based methodologies, investigating the ways in which the recording studio context can collapse distinctions between composition and improvised performance in the creation of original jazz sound works. Building upon similar work by artists such as Bill Evans, Lennie Tristano, and Jimmy Giuffre, the recordings were made as 'solo-multitrack' productions in which basic preprepared compositional frameworks form the basis of more detailed arrangements developed through recorded improvisation. Of particular interest in this work was the way in which 'interactivity' (with oneself) in the context of multi-track recording differs from musical interaction in a group context, as well as how the sounding result of these two processes differ. |
