This keynote presentation for the German Patient Safety in Palliative Home Care Round Table Discussion and Conference at Berlin Charité Medical University (8th -11th April, 2015) outlines the principles of practice development and provides published examples as to how practice development approaches can be used to improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of end of life care in community or domiciliary settings. The presentation preceded round table discussions about the suitability of practice development approaches in the German healthcare setting and specifically, those areas where end of life care is delivered.
