Description | This model explores Singapore’s smellscape previously created using human-perceived ‘smelldata’ collected from 9 distinct Singaporean neighbourhoods (Katong, Kampong Glam, Little India, Chinatown, ECP, Sentosa, Toa Payoh, Gardens by the Bay & Orchard Road) by 200 individual smellwalkers in June 2015. This work explores human-centred experience of the smellscape as a dimensional form whereby the duration of each perceived smell was ‘measured’ on using a Likert scale of 1 – 7, averaged in each neighbourhood and additional layers of dots added to present each level achieved. The model takes a small section of the overall map and renders it in three dimensions. Accepting the dominance of the visual in contemporary Western society, but simultaneously seeking to heighten olfactory awareness, this research asks what would it be like if human noses could see smell? |
