Description

Behind the Scenes is a film commissioned by The Beaney, House of Art and Knowledge, as part of the exhibition May the Toys Be With You. The film explores one man’s collection of Star Wars paraphernalia and through charting the history of the collection, the film reveals the collector’s biography and motivations. Captivated by the creativity of Star Wars, this collector has engaged in a life-long relationship with the films’ visual merchandise, which has fuelled his own imagination and reverie. The discussion uncovers insights into collecting that emphasise the importance of quality, authenticity and the pleasure that can be derived from acquiring items at the best price. Although this collection is not displayed within the collector’s home, the film uncovers the subtle traces it leaves behind and considers how collecting as a hobby impacts on the practicalities of family life.
