Abstract | A single-authored book on foundation, primary and secondary curriculum, arising from three research studies conducted by the author and auto-ethnographic research for a PhD. Intended for teachers and teachers in training, it employs a mixed research methodology including observations, interviews, videos, questionnaires, teacher biography and autobiography. The book proposal was examined by four anonymous peers. During writing it was subject to review from colleagues and scrutiny by an experienced editor. As a text book it is open to public scrutiny and is being reviewed by wide range of the educational and national press. It argues for a more creative and interdisciplinary curriculum aimed at well-being and liberating the child from the pressures to achieve externally set targets. It suggests that enjoyment, challenge and security arise from curricular themes and enquiries relevant to children’s lives. It proposes a curriculum which both satisfies national curriculum demands and is child-centred, flexible and innovative. |
